Who can take part

  • Your child is under 18 years old.
  • Your child is scheduled for their first heart surgery for a congenital heart condition.
  • Your child is not having emergency or repeat heart surgery.
  • Your child does not have any bleeding problems, liver or kidney disease.
  • Your child has not taken strong pain medications (opioids) before surgery.
  • You, as a parent or legal guardian, agree to sign a consent form for the study.
