Who can take part

  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You have cardiogenic shock, meaning your heart is not pumping enough blood, confirmed by low blood pressure and other signs
  • Your shock is caused by a heart attack or another heart problem
  • You have had a complete blood count test on admission
  • Your shock is not caused by infection, dehydration, or a blockage in the lungs
  • You do not have active infection, chronic inflammation, blood disorders, cancer, or liver disease
  • You have not had a recent blood transfusion and are not on immune-suppressing or steroid treatment
