Who can take part
- Scheduled for 1- or 2-level TLIF with the study doctor
- Failed at least 3 months of non-operative treatment
- Diagnosis of degenerative disc disease at 1-2 levels from L2 to S1, possibly with mild spondylolisthesis
- Able to provide informed consent
- No prior lumbar fusion surgery
- No osteoporosis or severe osteopenia
- No BMI > 40
- No need for additional bone graft materials
- No active infection
- No allergy to titanium or PEEK
- No active malignancy or history of spinal cancer
- No poorly controlled diabetes (HbA1c < 8%)
- No medications that interfere with bone healing
- Adequate tissue coverage and no open wound at surgery site
- Not pregnant, planning pregnancy, or lactating
- No involvement in litigation or workers' comp for back/leg pain
- Not participating in another research study
- No substance abuse that would affect compliance
- Not a prisoner
