Exercise in low vs normal oxygen for weight and gut health

Part of Hormones & metabolism clinical trials.

This study tests two exercise programs—one in low oxygen, one in normal oxygen—to see which is better at reducing body fat and improving gut health in adults aged 50–75 who are overweight or obese. You'll do high-intensity interval training (short bursts of intense exercise) and we'll monitor your results over time.

Who can take part

  • You are between 50 and 75 years old.
  • You are a man or a woman past menopause (no period for 12 months).
  • Your weight and height give a body mass index (BMI) between 25 and 35.
  • You smoke no more than 2 cigarettes a day (or don't smoke).
  • Your weight, diet, and physical activity have been steady for the past 3 months.
  • You are willing to keep your usual diet and activity during the study, and to exercise.
