  • You are 45 years or older.
  • You take 1 to 3 diabetes pills to control your blood sugar.
  • You have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes at least 6 months ago.
  • You have had a heart attack or stroke, have heart disease, or have kidney disease.
  • You have not been treated with insulin for diabetes for a long time in the past.
