Understanding delays in diagnosing pulmonary hypertension
Part of Heart & circulation, Lungs & breathing clinical trials.
This study looks at how long it takes between when people first notice symptoms and when they get a proper diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. It aims to understand the reasons for delays so that future diagnosis can be faster and better.
Summary written for real people, not researchers, by Clin2.
Who can take part
- Be 18 years of age or older
- Have a diagnosis of pre-capillary pulmonary hypertension (Group 1, 3, 4, or 5) — but not Group 2 (caused by left heart disease)
- Have a right heart catheterization (a special test that measures pressure in your lungs) or a strong clinical suspicion of PH
- Be able to recall approximately when your first symptoms began
- Be willing to talk with the study team and give informed consent

This study looks at the timing between first symptoms and diagnosis of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). It aims to better understand how quickly patients get diagnosed after symptoms appear.
This observational study is looking at people diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension to better understand how it behaves over time. You may help researchers by allowing repeated check-ins for years and sharing symptom and test information.
This study tracks natural changes in “biomarkers” (measurable signals in blood) and imaging findings in people with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) or suspected PAH. It also includes healthy people for comparison, helping researchers understand what these signals mean over time.
This study looks at timing mismatches (“dysynchrony”) in the heart and lungs in people with pulmonary hypertension. It may help researchers understand what causes symptoms and how the timing affects heart function.
This is a long-term study that enrolls people who have been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lung arteries). It collects medical information over time to better understand the condition and what to expect.
This trial is a registry that collects health information from people with pulmonary hypertension to better understand the disease and improve care. You may be asked to share details about your diagnosis and visits, especially soon after you start seeing a specialized PH care center.
