Comparing two ways to drain a blocked bile duct in borderline cancer

Who can take part

  • You have a blockage in the bile duct caused by cancer, and your doctor considers your condition 'borderline' — not clearly removable by surgery yet not too advanced.
  • You have jaundice (yellow skin or eyes) or abnormal liver tests showing the blockage is affecting your liver.
  • You have not had a stent or any other drainage procedure for this blockage before.
  • Your stomach and upper intestine are normal (not changed by prior surgery), so a doctor can reach the bile duct opening with a scope.
  • You are willing to follow up with tests and visits as needed for the study.
