This trial studies a precise, high-dose radiation technique (SBRT) to treat tumors in the lungs. It may help control cancer in people who either have early-stage lung cancer that is not fully operable or have limited lung metastases from other cancers.

Who can take part

  • You are 18 or older and can sign informed consent
  • Your cancer diagnosis is confirmed by biopsy or, if biopsy is risky, by scan evidence and growth over time and/or positive PET scan
  • Your lung cancer stage fits one of these: early non-metastatic NSCLC (no spread to lymph nodes or distant organs) or limited lung-only spread from another controlled cancer
  • Your lung tumor count is limited (about 3 or fewer early lung lesions, or up to 5 lung lesions if there are metastases)
  • You are well enough to tolerate treatment (lung function and overall ability typically between 0 and 3 on performance status)
  • You are not having certain treatments at the same time: no chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or other biologic therapy during the study (hormone therapy is allowed)
