Who can take part

  • You have already been diagnosed at Mayo Clinic with neurodegenerative apraxia of speech (speech difficulty related to brain changes).
  • You do not have another health problem that could explain your speech and language issues (such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, or certain developmental conditions).
  • You can safely have MRI scans (for example, no metal in your head and no implanted devices that make MRI unsafe).
  • You can complete the scanning process even if you feel anxious in enclosed spaces (no severe claustrophobia).
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding; if you could become pregnant, you must have a pregnancy test within 48 hours before the PET scan.
  • You have someone who can act as an informant and you (and your caregiver, if needed) agree to participate.
