This pilot study tests whether a therapy that gently stimulates nerves (NMES) and a whey-protein supplement (HPRO) can improve recovery after an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a type of bleeding around the brain. Participants are usually treated soon after the bleed and stay in the ICU long enough for the study measures.

Who can take part

  • You have been diagnosed with aneurysmal SAH (bleeding from an aneurysm).
  • Your aneurysm was repaired within 48 hours after the bleed started.
  • You are between 25 and 80 years old.
  • You are expected to need ICU care (NCCU) for more than 72 hours.
  • Your initial severity scores are above the study minimums (Hunt Hess Grade 2 or higher, modified Fisher score above 1).
