Who can take part

  • You are 18 years old or older.
  • You are having a double lung transplant and will be on a heart-lung bypass machine (VA-ECMO) during surgery.
  • Your surgeon has already decided to use either standard blood thinner (UFH) or a different type (LMWH) during surgery.
  • You are not currently on ECMO to keep you alive before the transplant.
  • You do not need to stay on ECMO after the surgery.
  • You do not have a known bleeding disorder, severe liver disease, or kidney failure on dialysis.
