This trial tests whether taking an anti–blood clot medicine (dalteparin) and using leg compression can reduce dangerous blood clots after a severe traumatic brain injury. It may help lower the chance of clots forming when people are immobile and at higher risk.

Who can take part

  • You’re 18 years or older
  • You have a traumatic brain injury with low brain function (GCS 8 or less) or moderate brain injury (GCS 9–12) with ICU care and certain brain scan findings
  • You can start the first study medicine within 3 days of the injury
  • There isn’t ongoing bleeding that can’t be controlled
  • You don’t have a known allergy to the study blood thinner (dalteparin or similar heparins) or pork products
  • You can use a leg compression device (SCD) on at least one leg during the study
