Who can take part

  • You arrived at the hospital within 24 hours after your head injury
  • Your injury is mainly to the brain (other body areas have an injury severity score of 3 or less)
  • You do not have a previous neurologic condition (a long-term brain or nerve problem before this injury)
  • You do not have a known bleeding/clotting disorder
  • You were not taking blood thinners or other medicines that affect clotting in the 30 days before the injury
  • You had not received blood transfusions or other blood products before the study blood sample is taken
