This study uses a light-based test (the “photomotor reflex”) to see how non-visual effects of light may affect sleep-wake timing, brain function, mental health, and eyesight. You may be assigned to a group based on your condition, or you may be in the healthy control group.

Who can take part
- Be 18 years old or older
- Be able to give informed consent (understand and agree to join)
- Have one of these study groups: a sleep-wake disorder, a neurologic condition affecting sleep/wake, a psychiatric condition affecting sleep/wake, an eye condition affecting how you detect light, or strong light sensitivity affecting sleep/wake; OR be healthy
- Not have pregnancy or be breastfeeding
- Not have significant vision loss from cataracts (worse than 5/10), advanced eye retina problems (like certain macular conditions), or certain diabetes/retina diseases
- Not be excluded because of recent/past study participation, legal protections, or inability to understand study information (for example, in an emergency)
