This study looks at how body fat and liver fat change after bariatric (weight-loss) surgery or a lifestyle program. You may join if you have overweight or obesity and can safely have MRI scans, so researchers can compare results between treatment approaches.

  • Your body mass index (BMI) is at least 25, or at least 30 with metabolic syndrome, or at least 35
  • You are not dealing with another liver disease (besides what the study is focusing on)
  • You are not currently taking medicines known to change liver fat
  • Your waist size is less than 150 cm
  • You can safely have an MRI scan (no MRI safety issues)
