You may be eligible if your emphysema is uneven in the lungs and testing suggests your “collateral ventilation” is low, meaning the treatment area may benefit more from blocking airflow.

Who can take part

  • You have severe emphysema that is uneven (one area is much worse than the rest)
  • Lung scan and breathing-tube testing suggest low or no “collateral ventilation” in the target area
  • Your breathing and lung function tests show significant airflow limitation and reduced gas exchange (FEV1 under 50% and DLCO under 45%)
  • Your heart function is good enough for study participation (left heart pumping strength LVEF above 40%) and you can safely participate in rehab
  • You’ve stopped smoking for at least 4 months and your body measurements fit the study range (BMI 18–35)
