This study looks at how well people swallow and how their quality of life changes during standard chemo-radiation for newly diagnosed throat (oropharyngeal) cancer. The goal is to better understand swallowing side effects so care can improve.

Who can take part

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Have newly diagnosed oropharyngeal squamous cell cancer confirmed by biopsy
  • Have not had any anti-cancer treatment for this cancer before starting (no prior chemo or surgery for it)
  • Be well enough to take treatment (performance status score 2 or less) and have blood, liver, and kidney test results in safe ranges
  • Have mild (or no) nerve problems and hearing issues (both grade 1 or less)
  • Be able to complete questionnaires and swallow tests, and be willing to sign consent
