Who can take part
- You have HPV-related squamous cell throat cancer of the tonsils or the back of the tongue (or nearby oropharynx area), confirmed by biopsy or surgery
- You have visible tumors on exam or scans, but no spread to distant organs on a PET/CT scan
- You have had the specific biopsy type needed for the study (an excisional biopsy or a core biopsy)
- You can safely get required scans and treatments, including CT/MRI of the neck (and MRI if you don’t have an MRI-blocking device like a pacemaker)
- Your overall health is strong enough for treatment (blood counts, kidney function, and liver tests meet limits), and you’re age 18+
- You have not had prior radiation to the head/neck, and you haven’t had prior chemotherapy for this same throat cancer
