Who can take part

  • Be an adult age 18 or older
  • If you could become pregnant, have a negative pregnancy test
  • Be in the ICU and on a breathing machine (mechanically ventilated) and need a PEG tube for a surgery/trauma reason
  • Be already tolerating tube feeding at the full planned rate before the PEG is placed
  • Have normal stomach/gut anatomy and movement (no major anatomy differences or motility disorders)
  • Not have feeding intolerance or other reasons doctors say PEG is unsafe for you; PEG must be done at the ICU bedside
