MEG study of memory after a small stroke

This study uses a special brain scan called MEG to understand how thinking and memory change after a small ischemic stroke. If you qualify, you may get scanned about 4–6 weeks after your stroke and help researchers learn what brain signals relate to recovery.

Who can take part

  • You’re 18 or older and were admitted to the Bayview Medical Center Neurology unit
  • Your stroke was an “ischemic” stroke on CT or MRI, likely small (lacunar/branch) OR your NIH stroke score was 8 or less
  • You can speak English well enough for the study (you or your family can report this)
  • You can return for follow-up about 4 to 6 weeks after the stroke (within about 4 weeks of that time)
  • You have thinking or memory problems shown on early testing
  • You can travel to the University of Maryland twice, including going there unassisted
