Study of liver disease and genes in people with fatty liver

NAFLD - Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver DiseaseDiabetesObesityMetabolic SyndromeCirrhosisLiver CancerNASH - Nonalcoholic SteatohepatitisHCC - Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Part of Cancer, Digestive system, Hormones & metabolism clinical trials.

This study collects information about metabolic and unexplained (cryptogenic) liver disease and looks at “omics” tests, which are lab tests that measure patterns in blood or tissue to learn what drives the disease. It may help researchers better understand fatty liver and related serious complications, like liver scarring and liver cancer.

Who can take part

  • You are age 18 or older.
  • You have fatty liver disease (NAFLD) such as simple fat buildup, NASH, metabolic cirrhosis, or NAFLD-related liver cancer—confirmed by biopsy or blood/imaging tests.
  • Your alcohol intake is low (no more than 21 units/week for men or 14 units/week for women) in the last 6 months, and you do not have a past history of heavy drinking over the last 5 years.
  • Either you had hepatitis C (HCV) treated with new medicines and have been virus-free for more than 6 months, or you have risk factors like diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, or psoriasis with no fatty liver seen on ultrasound (ultrasound must not show fatty liver).
  • You can clearly agree to participate after understanding the study (informed consent).

French study of fat in the liver and related health outcomes

This study follows adults with nonalcohol-related fatty liver disease (NAFLD) to better understand the condition and what factors affect it. It may help researchers learn which patients are most at risk and how care can be improved in the future.

NCT04442334Recruiting
European registry for people with fatty liver

This registry collects health and lifestyle information from adults with suspected or confirmed fatty liver (NAFLD) to help researchers better understand the condition. You may be asked about diet, exercise, alcohol intake, and some liver-related tests.

NCT06396871Recruiting
Blood cell study in metabolic diseases

This study looks at blood cells and factors in people with metabolic diseases like fatty liver, prediabetes, or type 2 diabetes. It aims to better understand these conditions by comparing them with healthy volunteers.

NCT07775638Not yet recruiting
Liver fibrosis screening for at-risk adults

This study tests a way to find liver scarring (fibrosis) early in people who have risk factors like being overweight, having type 2 diabetes, or drinking alcohol heavily. Early detection may help prevent serious liver damage.

Stavanger
NCT06856252Recruiting
Studying human liver organoids for a fatty liver disease called NASH

This study takes small samples of liver tissue to grow 3D 'mini livers' (organoids) in the lab. Researchers want to learn how non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), a serious fatty liver condition, starts and progresses, which could lead to better treatments.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease study with biobank

This study collects health information and samples from people with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease to better understand the condition. It may help researchers find new ways to diagnose or treat this liver problem.
