This trial tests whether tranexamic acid (a medicine that helps blood clot) can improve outcomes for children with certain serious head or torso injuries. It aims to reduce complications from internal bleeding when the medicine is given soon after the injury.

Who can take part

  • You must be under 18 years old.
  • The injury must be within the torso (chest/abdomen/neck/pelvis) or the head, based on specific bleeding/scan signs.
  • The study medicine must be able to be given within 3 hours after the injury.
  • The head injury must include bleeding on a CT scan and a Glasgow Coma Scale score of 3 to 13 (they enroll after the CT scan).
  • You cannot already have had tranexamic acid for this same injury.
  • There are exclusions such as pregnancy, known kidney failure, known allergy to tranexamic acid, certain clotting/bleeding disorders, and certain neurologic injury types.
