Who can take part
- You are 60 years old or older
- You can understand the study and sign consent
- You are having planned, elective non–heart surgery that does not involve your head or neck
- Your anesthesia plan is general anesthesia expected to last at least 2 hours
- You do not have long-term pain that requires opioid medicine on a regular basis
- You are not taking medicines that speed up drug breakdown (like carbamazepine or phenytoin), and you avoid illicit drug use or heavy alcohol use
