Who can take part

  • You are in the hospital on a breathing machine (invasive mechanical ventilation)
  • Your oxygen level is low enough to meet the study thresholds (based on blood oxygen or oxygen settings)
  • You do not have a known allergy or serious past reaction to muscle-relaxing medicines
  • You do not have a history of malignant high heat reaction with anesthesia (malignant hyperthermia)
  • You do not have nerve problems in both wrists/arms or skin burns on both wrists
  • You do not have a formally diagnosed muscle/nerve disorder
