Who can take part

  • You can sign consent and agree to follow all study visits and procedures
  • You are age 22 to 79, and had an ischemic or bleeding stroke at least 12 months ago
  • Your arm/hand function score is between 20 and 50, and your disability level is a 2, 3, or 4
  • Your right vocal cord moves normally on a scope exam (laryngoscopy)
  • You can safely have the planned surgery, and your medical team says you meet surgical requirements
  • If you could become pregnant, you will use effective birth control and you are not currently pregnant or breastfeeding
