Who can take part

  • You are having planned (not emergency) heart surgery such as bypass (CABG), valve replacement (AVR), or valve repair/replacement (MVR/other listed combinations), or SAH
  • You do not have a diagnosed psychiatric disorder (including depression or anxiety)
  • You do not have dementia or any known thinking/memory problems (cognitive deficit)
  • You do not have major organ failure (for example, kidney, liver, or other organs), and your kidney test is not severely abnormal
  • You do not have conditions that raise transfusion risk, clotting disorders, active infection, or immune disorders
  • You meet surgery safety thresholds (including no prior cardiac surgery, no combined heart operations, and left ventricular strength not too low)
