Who can take part

  • You’re an adult (18 or older) with focal epilepsy that hasn’t responded to medicine
  • You’re being considered for brain surgery to remove the seizure area, and your workup started within the last 2 years
  • Your brain scans do not show certain blood-vessel problems or cancer where surgery would happen
  • You need special brain testing with EEG using a minor procedure (burr hole) to confirm surgery is appropriate
  • Doctors must think it’s safe for you to have anesthesia and surgery, and you can follow the plan for 5 years
  • You must agree to strong birth control rules if you could become pregnant, and you must not be pregnant or breastfeeding
