Who can take part
- You have had a severe “malignant” stroke, and your neurologist, ICU doctor, and neurosurgeon have decided you need hemicraniectomy (HD).
- Your surgery is for an ischemic stroke (lack of blood flow), not for a brain bleed.
- You did not have significant prior disability before this stroke (modified Rankin score 2 or less).
- You are not currently covered by a legal protection measure that limits consent decisions.
- If you are being considered as a control (comparison group): your surgery involves a non-preservation approach at the site and is not for an acute bleeding or traumatic brain issue.
