Study how fitness and insulin resistance relate to diabetes

This study looks at how low physical activity, insulin resistance in small blood vessels, and cardiorespiratory fitness connect to diabetes and blood sugar control. You may be eligible if you are generally sedentary and fit within the weight range, and if you do not have certain heart, lung, nerve, or medication factors.

Who can take part

  • You do less than 1 hour of physical activity per week
  • Your BMI is between 25 and 40
  • You may have type 2 diabetes or not—either can qualify
  • You must not have known cardiovascular (heart/blood vessel) disease
  • Your blood pressure must not be very high (systolic over 150 or diastolic over 110)
  • You must not have conditions or factors that prevent safe testing, like serious lung disease, peripheral nerve problems, or major exercise limits
