Directional versus standard brain stimulation for essential tremor

Essential Tremor

Part of Brain & nervous system clinical trials.

This study compares two ways of delivering deep brain stimulation (DBS) to treat essential tremor that affects both arms. It may help find a DBS approach that better controls tremor while reducing side effects.

Who can take part

  • You have essential tremor that affects both arms during movement (action tremor)
  • Your tremor has been going on for at least 3 years
  • You are still considering DBS because your tremor medication is not controlling it well
  • You have never had DBS before
  • You have not had a prior thalamotomy (a related brain procedure)

NCT06325852Recruiting
New brain stimulation for Essential Tremor

This study tests a new way to use Deep Brain Stimulation (a device that sends tiny electrical pulses to parts of the brain controlling movement) for people with Essential Tremor. It is for those whose current stimulator is no longer working well, or who need a stimulator for the first time.

NCT04758624Recruiting
Study brain changes after deep brain stimulation for tremor

This study looks at how brain “wiring” (connectivity) and brain function change over time in people with essential tremor after successful deep brain stimulation. You might benefit by helping researchers better understand what DBS does in the brain, which can improve care for others with tremor.

NCT07049003Recruiting· Phase 1
Deep brain stimulation for severe tremor

This trial tests a new type of deep brain stimulation (DBS) for people with severe tremor from essential tremor, multiple sclerosis, or cerebellar conditions who haven't improved with standard treatments. It targets a different brain area to see if it can reduce shaking and improve daily activities.

NCT05897775Recruiting· Phase 1
Testing a new deep brain stimulator approach for essential tremor

This Phase 1 study tests a coordinated reset deep brain stimulation program for people with essential tremor. It may help reduce tremor symptoms using a specific implanted brain-stimulation device, along with special high-strength MRI and CT imaging before and after surgery.

NCT07302867Not yet recruiting
Deep brain stimulation for essential tremor that stops responding quickly

This trial tests new ways to program a deep brain stimulation (DBS) device to help people whose essential tremor comes back shortly after standard programming.

NCT04032470Recruiting
Deep brain stimulation registry for essential tremor patients

This study collects information from adults with essential tremor who are getting deep brain stimulation under the hospital’s standard safety guidelines. It may help improve how this treatment is chosen and used for people with tremor over time.
