Biperiden to prevent seizures after traumatic brain injury

This trial tests whether biperiden can lower the chance of developing epilepsy after an acute traumatic brain injury (with bleeding or bruising seen on CT). If you qualify, you would get the medicine or a placebo soon after the injury, and researchers will compare outcomes.

Who can take part

  • You must be able to give informed consent (or have a legal representative).
  • Age 18 to 75 years.
  • You were admitted with a moderate to severe traumatic brain injury and your brain CT shows bleeding in the brain and/or bruising (contusion).
  • Your first study dose/placebo must be given within 18 hours after the brain injury.
  • You should not have a history of epilepsy, prior seizures, or taking seizure medicines.
  • You cannot be pregnant and you cannot be taking biperiden already; you also must not be in another clinical trial at the time of randomization.
