Who can take part

  • Age 45 to 74 years
  • Have primary high blood pressure (not “secondary” causes) and be on blood pressure medicine—or have high readings at two clinic visits
  • Have MTHFR 677 TT genotype from a test done by a qualified lab
  • Be able and willing to sign consent and follow study visits
  • No stroke or major heart/circulation event during the study “run-in” period
  • Not be on treatments or have illnesses that would rule you out (examples: prior stroke, dialysis, very poor kidney function, certain heart rhythm problems)
