Who can take part
- You have rectal cancer confirmed as adenocarcinoma
- You are 18 or older and can do normal activities most of the time (ECOG 0–1)
- Your tumor can be fully removed with surgery after treatment, and it’s not in distant organs (no metastases)
- You have not had radiation or chemotherapy for rectal cancer before
- You don’t have certain lung, immune, or ongoing infection problems that could make treatment unsafe
- Your blood counts and liver function are high enough for chemotherapy (for example hemoglobin > 8 and platelets > 150)
