Who can take part
- You are age 60 or older, and have AML, related leukemia, or MDS
- Your leukemia is not acute promyelocytic leukemia, and you do not have the “favorable genetics” group that usually fits intensive chemotherapy
- You are not eligible for intensive chemotherapy or a stem cell transplant from another person
- Your body can handle treatment: kidney and liver function are adequate (or issues are mainly from the cancer), and heart condition is stable
- Your activity level is limited but not too low (performance status 0–2 if 75+; 0–3 if 60–74)
- You have enough time to benefit (life expectancy over 3 months) and you can sign consent
