Who can take part
- Be between 1 year and under 15 years old
- Have recently diagnosed type 1 diabetes, or be a sibling at higher risk, or be a control child without high-risk markers
- For the “at risk” group: have a sibling with type 1 diabetes and test positive for HLA DR3 and DR4
- If you are in an endoscopy (camera of the upper gut) group: be old enough for that procedure (not too young) and have a reason for endoscopy (such as suspected celiac disease or gastritis, or part of the recent-onset endoscopy group)
- Be able to get medical consent and have health insurance; do not use corticosteroids in the month before joining
