Stem cell heart muscle therapy for weak heart after prior heart attack

Chronic Ischemic Left Ventricular Dysfunction

Who can take part

  • Age 21 to under 80 years old
  • You have had a prior heart attack and have evidence of lasting heart muscle damage (shown on imaging) from blocked heart arteries
  • Your heart pumping strength (ejection fraction) is below 40% and you have heart failure symptoms in the last 6 months
  • You are already on the usual “maximum” heart failure medicines at stable doses (or you have a reason you can’t take some)
  • You need a cardiac catheterization (a heart procedure done through blood vessels) within about 5–10 weeks of screening
  • You have an implanted defibrillator (AICD) in place, and it has not fired in the last 60 days

The cells are infused into the heart artery to possibly improve heart function. You may qualify if you are between 20 and 76, had a heart attack within the last 12 hours, and received a stent, and your heart's pumping ability is moderately reduced.
