This trial helps people with recent traumatic spinal cord injury improve arm movement and trunk (upper body) stability using a training program that includes electrical stimulation. If you’re early after injury and can safely use stimulation, you may benefit from more controlled movement for daily tasks.

Who can take part

  • You had a traumatic spinal cord injury, and it happened less than 5 months ago
  • Your spinal injury affects the neck area (levels C1 through C8)
  • Your injury falls in AIS B, C, or D (a clinician’s grading of nerve function)
  • You are currently an inpatient at Craig Hospital rehabilitation
  • During screening, you can have electrical stimulation show a movement/response in most arm muscles below the injury
  • You can safely do the training as an outpatient if you leave inpatient rehab before finishing 40 sessions
