Who can take part
- You started an invasive breathing machine (mechanical ventilation) in the ICU within the last 48 hours
- Doctors expect you will need the breathing machine for at least 5 days
- Your body mass index (BMI) is 40 or less
- You can take part in study measurements after the breathing tube is removed (extubation)
- You can safely have MRI scans (no non-MRI-safe implants)
- You do not have certain medical reasons that affect safety or participation (no epilepsy, no slipped disc, and no alcohol/drug abuse)
