Who can take part

  • You are age 18 or older and have had symptoms of atrial fibrillation (AF) that were confirmed on an EKG within the last 48 hours to 12 months
  • You are planning to have cardioversion (a procedure to reset heart rhythm) and will be taking blood thinners (or are already on them for cardioversion)
  • You are not currently taking an anti-arrhythmia medicine (a drug meant to control abnormal heart rhythms) as part of your usual care
  • Your blood pressure is not very high (top number must be 180 or less, bottom number must be 100 or less)
  • You have no “temporary” cause of AF such as major electrolyte imbalance, hyperthyroidism, or pericarditis (heart lining inflammation)
  • You agree to the study and can follow requirements (including heart monitoring) and sign consent
