Who can take part

  • You are age 18 or older.
  • You have a confirmed isolated superior mesenteric artery dissection (a blood-vessel tear) shown on a CT angiogram (CTA).
  • You have symptoms or a history of symptoms related to this condition.
  • You can sign informed consent and are willing to receive either treatment plan.
  • Your symptoms are not so severe that you need emergency surgery to look inside your abdomen.
  • You are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you don’t have plans for a recent pregnancy or childbirth.
  • You do not have certain related artery diseases (like aortic dissection or iliac artery dissection) or autoimmune vasculitis.
