Who can take part
- You’re 18 years or older.
- Your breathing problem started or worsened within 2 weeks before you needed oxygen/ventilator support.
- You’ve needed significant oxygen or breathing support for at least 4 hours before randomization.
- Tests show your lungs are not getting enough oxygen (low oxygen level), not mainly from heart failure, fluid overload, or a blood clot in the lung.
- You are not planned to be taken off the breathing tube the day of screening, and you’re not planning ICU discharge that day.
- You’re not in end-of-life (fully palliative) care or expected to die within 24 hours.
