Metformin plus targeted lung cancer drugs for EGFR-mutated cancer

This Phase 3 study tests whether adding metformin to standard targeted medicines (tyrosine kinase inhibitors) helps people with EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer. It’s meant for people who haven’t already had EGFR-targeted treatment and who have healthy enough labs and organs to safely take the study medicines.

Who can take part

  • Have non-small cell lung cancer that is stage IIIB to IV and confirmed by biopsy/pathology
  • Have EGFR mutation that makes the cancer sensitive to EGFR-targeted drugs (a “sensitizing” mutation)
  • Have measurable cancer on scans (so doctors can track changes during treatment)
  • Be age 18 or older, with an OK activity level (ECOG 0–2) and at least 12 weeks of expected lifespan
  • Not have taken any EGFR-targeted medicine before (chemotherapy before is allowed if stopped at least 6 months ago)
  • Be able to take pills, and have required blood tests and organ function (kidney, liver, and blood counts) within study limits
