Who can take part

  • You’re age 16–55 (for one group) or 18–55 (for another group)
  • You either have suspected epilepsy without an official diagnosis, or you have a confirmed epilepsy diagnosis
  • You must be able to have MRI scans (no pacemakers/metal implants, and you can tolerate being in the scanner)
  • If you’re in the group that uses PET scans, you must be able to complete PET testing
  • You must be able to safely take levetiracetam or lamotrigine, and avoid interacting medicines
  • No pregnancy or breastfeeding
