Immunosuppressive treatment for IgA kidney disease in stage 3–4

This trial tests whether immunosuppressive therapy (medicine that calms the immune system) helps people with IgA nephropathy and moderately to severely reduced kidney function. It is intended for adults with confirmed IgA kidney disease who still have significant protein in the urine despite standard blood-pressure kidney protection treatment.

Who can take part

  • You have a kidney biopsy showing IgA nephropathy
  • You have at least 1.0 gram of protein in your urine per day while on the highest tolerated “RAS” blood-pressure/kidney-protecting medicine
  • Your kidney filtering is reduced to about 15–60 ml/min (stage 3 to 4 chronic kidney disease)
  • You can safely take immunosuppressive treatment with corticosteroids (not medically contraindicated), and you have not used steroids or other immune-suppressing medicines in the past year
  • Your kidney function is stable enough that it’s not being driven by another urgent or changing cause
  • You are an adult (18 or older) and your IgA disease is not caused by another underlying condition
