Who can take part
- You must be at least 18 years old and have sickle cell disease type HbSS or HbS–beta-0 thalassemia
- You need to be followed at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center sickle cell clinic
- You can be included if you currently take hydroxyurea (the standard sickle cell medicine)
- You cannot have a different sickle cell type, like HbSC or HbS–beta-plus thalassemia
- You must not have had a stroke or another known neurological disorder
- You must not be pregnant or breastfeeding
