Spine radiosurgery for painful cancer spread to the spine

Who can take part

  • You must be an adult (18+) and able to sign consent
  • Your cancer must be confirmed by biopsy/medical tests, and spine spread must be confirmed by imaging (MRI/CT scans, etc.)
  • You must have no prior treatments (especially no prior radiation to the same spine area being treated now)
  • Your worst pain should be under 2 out of 10 before treatment, and you should not plan to change pain medicines on the first SBRT day
  • Your spine should be stable (Spinal Instability score, SINS, must be 12 or lower), and your radiation team must agree you are a spine SBRT candidate
  • You must be able to have an MRI of your spine
