Protein diet program to improve muscle strength in heart failure

Heart FailureMuscle Atrophy

Part of Brain & nervous system, Heart & circulation clinical trials.

This trial tests whether adding dietary protein can help skeletal muscles recover and function better in people living with heart failure. It may help with strength, muscle wasting, and overall ability to do daily activities.

Who can take part

  • You have heart failure with reduced heart pumping (LVEF 40% or less) or clear symptoms/labs showing it is significant
  • You are age 18 to 100
  • You are taking standard heart failure medicines as prescribed (or you cannot take them due to side effects/other reasons)
  • In the last 12 months, you had one or more signs that heart failure is more severe (like recent hospital stay, very weak pumping, weight loss, low exercise capacity, or high NT-proBNP)
  • You are not pregnant, and you can complete required pregnancy testing before DXA scans/randomization
  • You do not have major kidney failure (eGFR under 20) or a history of heart transplant or LVAD

Tracking muscle changes in acute heart failure

This study measures how thigh muscles change in people hospitalized with severe heart failure. It aims to understand muscle loss during this condition and how it relates to recovery.

High-Protein Diet and HMB for Heart Failure

This study tests whether a high-protein diet with a supplement called HMB can help people with chronic heart failure feel stronger and healthier. The study compares this diet to standard care.

NCT05919940Recruiting
Testing a muscle stimulation and extra protein plan in ICU patients

This trial tests whether electrical muscle stimulation plus extra protein (protein substitute) can improve muscle health and metabolism in critically ill adults in the ICU. If you’re newly admitted and expected to stay on a breathing machine for several days, it may help you keep more muscle strength during recovery.

NCT05063955Recruiting
Study muscle changes in people with heart failure

This study looks at the reasons for age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia) in people with heart failure. It may help researchers understand what is causing muscle weakness and how it could be treated in the future.

Protein supplement for people on dialysis

This trial tests if a protein supplement during dialysis sessions can help people on maintenance dialysis maintain or improve their nutrition. It looks for participants who have been on dialysis for at least three months and are not severely malnourished.

NCT05008705Recruiting
Protein and muscle stimulation for hospitalized seniors

This trial tests whether increasing protein intake plus using a gentle electrical muscle stimulation device can help maintain or build muscle mass in older adults while they are hospitalized. It may help prevent muscle loss that can happen after short hospital stays.
