Gum and tooth infection treatment with special calcium filling paste

This trial looks at how well a dentist’s treatment works for a combined gum and tooth infection (“endodontic-periodontal disease”) using calcium filling material, with or without extra biologic material. If you qualify, it may help improve the health of deep gum pockets and support better healing around affected tooth roots.

Who can take part

  • You have endodontic-periodontal disease with no root damage, in gum disease stages I, II, or III (per the Herrera 2017 system)
  • You must have at least one deep bone defect: a gum pocket depth of 5 mm or more and a 3 mm or more bone defect on an X-ray near an affected tooth
  • You are age 18 to 80
  • You do not smoke at all (no cigarettes in the past 5 years, and no vaping/e-cigarettes)
  • The affected tooth must be treatable (no severely calcified canals, resorption, perforations, fractures/cracks, or other “not fixable” situations)
