Who can take part
- Be 19 years old or older
- Be in refractory cardiogenic shock and receiving peripheral VA-ECMO
- Be able (or your substitute decision-maker can) to give informed consent
- Not be currently pregnant, or within 30 days after delivery, or breast-feeding
- Not be using VA-ECMO for a non–heart shock reason
- Have no severe bleeding/clotting problem (severe coagulopathy)
- Not have already irreversible leg blood flow loss that needs procedures or surgery right now
