Who can take part

  • You are 18 to 65 years old and weigh more than 40 kg (about 88 lb)
  • You have liver failure that is not improving after at least 3 days of standard care
  • Your blood tests show liver failure signs (for example, bilirubin is elevated but not extremely high, and clotting tests are abnormal enough to meet the study range)
  • You may have complications like fluid buildup (ascites) and/or confusion from liver disease (hepatic encephalopathy)
  • You must not have certain unsafe conditions like bleeding in the brain, active bleeding, or uncontrolled severe infection
  • You cannot have pregnancy or breastfeeding, and you cannot test positive for HIV or SARS-CoV-2
